As you will by now be aware The Parent Council and the Parent Teachers Association amalgamated in January 2011 and we now have a new formed group named the Friends of Duns Primary School (FDPS). We are an active group of parents, teachers and school staff who give a little time to help organise and run fundraising events and fun activities throughout the school year, making extra money for equipment and resources that the school needs. Over the past few years we have helped to fund school trips, Christmas parties and activities, made contributions towards visiting theatre and music workshops, and helped with a new reading book scheme and playground equipment.

Most schools have some sort of a FDPS organisation and the day to day running of the FDPS is in the hands of a committee, which is elected at the Annual General Meeting held at the start of the school year. The current members of the committee are listed at the top of this letter. All parents and teachers are automatically members of the FDPS and any parent or school staff member can be elected onto the committee, but many more help in a less formal way, i.e. making teas, selling raffle tickets, baking cakes and biscuits, collecting donations, leafleting local businesses, running a stall and helping to set up and clear away at the various events. This help is invaluable. Are you able to help too? All mums, dads, guardians and carers are very welcome to join us.
